CONTEST RULES KOD 2019

GRAND FINALE | SAN MARTINO DI CASTROZZA

Premise

The 2019 King of Dolomites edition calls for 2 different moments: the Online Qualifying Stage and the Grand Finale in San Martino di Castrozza. The current Guidelines refer specifically and exclusively to the San Martino di Castrozza Grand Finale which will take place from 21th to 24th February 2019.

1] Subject of the “King of Dolomites” Contest

King of Dolomites is a photographic contest focused on the Freeride Skiing, whether practiced on Skiis, Telemark skiis or Snowboards. The Qualifying Stage will take place Online from 22nd December 2018 to 16th February 2019, while the Grand Finale of the contest will occur from 21st to 24th February 2019 in San Martino di Castrozza, in the italian eastern Dolomites, in Trentino.

2019 Edition offers many themes: the aim of the participants is to capture the most evocative shot for each topic.
The criteria followed by the jury for awarding the prizes are defined in this regulation.

The pictures must be taken in the sorroundings of San Martino di Castrozza and Passo Rolle. Here you can find a map of the Contest’s boundaries.

2] Contest Categories

King of Dolomites 2019 will be different from the past, no more OPEN and PRO categories, just one contest category where all freeride and photography enthusiasts can be challenge without difference about rules and prizes. Each team can be made up of maximum 3 members, and 100 is the permitted number of teams.

The pictures must be taken starting from 6 am of Friday 22 February 2019 and must be consigned within midnight on Saturday 23 February 2019 according to the procedure defined in the current guidelines.

3] Contest attendance and registration

Only the properly registered teams can take part in the competition. Applications will start on 1 December 2018 and the given deadline for the registration is 9 am of Saturday 23 February 2019. All the participants to the contest must respect possible municipal ordinances and notices displayed inside and outside the Ski Area and the local area.

The contest registration fee is 60 € per team (irrespective of the number of the team members). For the teams which will benefit from the Early Bird formula (registration within midnight on 31st December 2018) the price is 45 € per team.

The teams which will apply must sign up for the contest on the website of the event and pay the registration fee via PayPal.
As an alternative to the on-line registration, it is possible to enroll and sign up for the competition directly at the KOD point in San Martino di Castrozza during the office opening times (Central Skipass Office in San Martino di Castrozza, 8.30 am – 12 am | 4 pm – 6 pm) starting from Monday 18th February, till 9 a.m. of Saturday 23th February 2019.

Every team will receive a ride pack with 3 KOD2019 T-Shirt and can take advantage of the discount on the Skipass ticket.

Teams which subscribe online can buy the Skipass ticket at a discounted price at all the ticket office of the San Martino – Passo Rolle Ski Area presenting the registration receipt.

Teams which subscribe in San Martino can buy the Skipass ticket at a discounted price at the moment of the registration at the KOD point.

All teams can pick up the competition package with 3 KOD2019 T-Shirts at the KOD Village set up in the center of San Martino di Castrozza during the days of Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 February 2019.

4] Contest main topic and evaluation criteria of the consigned photographic material

Four themes are proposed in King of Dolomites 2019:

  • LANDSCAPE
  • ACTION
  • ALPINISM
  • THEME KOD2019

Theme KOD2019 will be communicated by February 16th, 2019.
For each theme one winning photo will be selected. The following prizes will be awarded:

  • BEST PICTURE THEME LANDSCAPE
  • BEST PICTURE THEME ACTION
  • BEST PICTURE THEME ALPINISM
  • BEST PICTURE THEME KOD2019

Judging criteria are the following:

ACTION

For the theme ‘ACTION’, the judges will collectively select a first place winner based on the following judging criteria (in order of relevance):

  • Technical quality of the athletic feat
  • Capacity to interpret and tell the action
  • Photographic quality, considering the composition as well as the light

LANDSCAPE

For the theme ‘LANDSCAPE’, the judges will collectively select a first place winner based on the following judging criteria (in order of relevance):

  • Scenic beauty and ability to enhance the Dolomitic context
  • Photographic quality, considering the composition as well as the light
  • Quality of the athletic feat

ALPINISM/APPROACH

For the theme ‘ALPINISM’, the judges will collectively select a first place winner based on the following judging criteria (in order of relevance):

  • Value and quality of the alpinism action
  • Evocative power of the picture and effectiveness in conveying emotions
  • Photographic quality, considering the composition as well as the light

THEME KOD2019

A tale (140 letters maximum) should be submitted together with the picture by all teams competing for KOD2019 theme.

The judges will collectively select a first place winner based on the following judging criteria (in order of relevance):

  • Coherence with the theme and ability to interpret it
  • Originality of the tale
  • Photographic quality, considering the composition as well as the light

Pictures, able to recall the Dolomitic features as well as the originality of the shoots will be evaluated in a very positive way.

In every shot, at least one rider in action – equipped with helmet and a backpack containing the Asd kit must always be represented.

Pictures taken on the days before the beginning of the Contest will not be considered and evaluated.

5] Consignment of the pictures and technical requirements

The teams must consign 4 pictures, 1 for each theme, at the latest on midnight of Saturday 23th February 2019.

The pictures must be sent in high-resolution via Wetransfer through the specific button on the website starting from Saturday 23th February 2019. We highly recommend to follow meticulously the instructions on the website to ensure the success of the upload operation; please specify the name of the photographer and the captured rider.
As an alternative, it is possible to upload the pictures directly on the PC of the organizing committee from 10pm to 12pm on Saturday 23 February 2019 in San Martino di Castrozza in the Saturday evening party location.

6] Composition of the Jury

The jury is constituted by 3 people chosen between freeriders, journalists and photographers in the field of winter sports and the disciplines linked to the world of freeriding. The jury will consider and judge only the consigned pictures, and will declare the winner of each category. The names of the members of the jury are listed on a specific page of the official website of the contest.

7] Award ceremony and distribution of the prize

The award ceremony will take place in the Sass Maor square in San Martino di Castrozza, on 3.00 p.m. of Sunday 24th February 2019. The money prize will be sent within 180 days from the end of the event, the amount is intended after taxes and withholding tax:

BEST PICTURE LANDSCAPE THEME:   € 1000,00

BEST PICTURE ACTION THEME:   € 1000,00

BEST PICTURE ALPINISM THEME:   € 1000,00

BEST PICTURE KOD2019 THEME:   € 1000,00

At the award ceremony it is required the presence of at least one member for each team. In case of absence of the winner team/a member of the winner team, the team will be automatically excluded from the classification of the contest and the prize will be awarded to the successive team.

Other prizes (equipment products from sponsors) can be given by the jury for special mentions.

8] Use of the images

The consigned photographs may be used, previously adding the photo credits, by the organizing committee, the local office for tourism promotion and the sponsors.

Every picture will be published on the official website and on the social networks of the event, and may be used to promote the event, the location and the products of the partners which sponsored the event and to finance future editions of the event by selling poster and canvas.

9] Responsibility

The organizing committee refuses any responsibility for damages to people and things before, during and after the event. The observance and the respect of possible municipal ordinances about off-track skiing during the days of the event is referred to the single participants to the contest.

10] Acceptance

All the participants accepts this regulation in all its parts simply submitting their pictures as previously described.
