San Martino di Castrozza, feb 24th, 2014: Pietro Celesia is the winner of the King of Dolomites’ second edition. Congratulations!
Pietro Celesia is the winner of the second edition of King of Dolomites. Yesterday afternoon he was crowned in the city center, facing a beautiful sunset. An extraordinary success for this event with more than 170 riders and photographers who were challenged on the slopes of S Martino di Castrozza in the Dolomites of Trentino on Friday and Saturday.
After a first edition that everyone still remembers for the magnificent snow conditions, yesterday afternoon in the center of San Martino di Castrozza the second edition of the King of Dolomites has come to an end. Two fantastic days of freeriding, photography and entertainment that led to the jury over 250 photographs, divided into three categories PRO, wannabes and WANNA-BABIES (under 18).

A really interesting week for all, especially for the journalists invited as early as Wednesday, February 19th in San Martino di Castrozza by Arc’teryx, the main sponsor of this second edition. They had the opportunity to experience firsthand the products of the next season, and take part in some presentations organized in collaboration with some of the team Arc’teryx athletes from all over the world. For some of them it was only an opportunity to discover San Martino di Castrozza and its beautiful mountains, while others have ventured into the competition held during the days of Friday and Saturday.
The outcome of the activities that took place at KOD Alpe Tognola Village was also a success. On Saturday and Sunday, the largest companies in the world of snow let free-riders try out all the latest news ahead of the next winter. On Sunday 23rd the Icarus Project was devoted to young free-riders. The Alpine Guides took them to experience the off-piste skiing in order to discover and learn directly in the field which are the variables to be taken into consideration while you practice it.
Fantastic skiing in powder snow during the day, parties at night: the entertainment is certainly not lacking. The Arc’teryx Party on Friday night at Ranch The Dolomites, The King of Dolomites Forst Party on Saturday night at La Stube. Two evenings characterized by music, lots of riders and great fun.
Another fascinating moment was also the ceremony in the city center of San Martino di Castrozza, organized at sunset: the new King of Dolomites came into possession of his crown at the very moment when everybody could watch the Pale di San Martino tinged with pink, a unique natural phenomenon which made the ceremony particularly exciting. Many participants and onlookers gathered under the giant screen projecting the photos of the winners and, later on, they met together at the Sky Cafe for a beer with friends before going back home, there, they could take a look at all the photos of the event projected on a monitor.
A very positive balance for this second edition of the event, which confirms its uniqueness and spectacle in an environment of great charm and extraordinary beauty. Growth in the number of participants, the better level of the material realized, the enormous satisfaction of the organizers and sponsors of the event, all these things made this event unique and memorable. Although it is still early, there are already many ideas and proposals for the next King of Dolomites, which will see the introduction into its third year of some interesting innovations.
A special thanks goes to the organizing committee and volunteers who, with their help and support, have made this possible, and to our partners Arc’teryx, Scarpa, APT San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle – Primiero and Vanoi, il Consorzio Impianti San Martino – Passo Rolle, Forst, RedBull, Elle-Erre EasyFlags, Slalom Sport, Ranch The Dolomites, La Stube, Sky Cafè, The Alpine Guides Aquile di San Martino di Castrozza e Primiero, Romantik Hotel Regina, Hotel Paladin, Nordica Freeskiers, ITAS Assicurazioni Agenzia di Fiera di Primiero, to tourist accommodations which have hosted the team of professionals and members of the jury.
See you next year!
